Maple Syrup

Today we had a guest speaker. Mrs. Carolyn Small came to visit and share with us about how maple syrup is made. What a fun day!

She showed us what the buckets look like that they collect the sap in. We also learned that the covers keep out all sorts of things.

Each student held up two gallons of sap. Did you know it takes 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup??

Everyone got to try some sap from the tree.

Mrs Small read us a fun story called Anytime Mapleson and the Hungry Bears. It was such a cute story and Mrs. Small is a fabulous storyteller.

After the story we watched a DVD that showed us a sugar house and how maple syrup is made. Mrs. Small even surprised us dwith a special treat, vanilla ice cream cups with maple syrup on top!!!! We were so busy enjoying our treat that I forgot to get a picture. lol

Just another great day in First Grade!!!
