Field trip to Texas Roadhouse

The countdown is on! With only 6 more days of school left, we are busy trying to fit in all of our end of the year activities, field trips, and of course academics! This week we are off to Texas Roadhouse to see how a restaurant works. We had so much fun and learned a ton.

We took a tour of the kitchen and learned lots about safety. We also learned how important communication is between the workers in order to get the food from the kitchen to the table.

After our kitchen tour we had fun dressing our Armadillos while the second grade had their kitchen tour.

We even got to choose a sheriff badge or a belt buckle. Almost everyone went for the badge.

Then while we waited for our lunch to cook, Manager Nick gave us all a piece of chalk to write on the floor. They loved this!!!! What a great idea! They were so busy they forgot they were hungry. I loved that!

Then we had a free yummy lunch of chicken fingers and fries for everyone!

After lunch it was time to say goodbye and head back to school.

Mother's Day and Blueberries

What does Mother's Day and Blueberries have in common???  Not a lot but that is what was happening in Room 101 today. We were scurrying around trying to finish up Mother's Day projects and in between we had a visitor, Mrs. Small. She stop by to share with us all about blueberries which was perfect since we a starting our plant unit. We love it when Mrs. Small visits because she fills our heads with lots of information and then she usually fills our bellies with a fun snack that goes with our theme. Kindergarten and First is all about the SNACKS! She read the book Wild Blueberries for ME put out by Maine Agriculture in the Classroom. They do a great job and we love their non-fiction books.
After we talked about how blueberries grow and are picked we read one of my favorite picture books.

Don't you just LOVE this book. Seeing it just makes me want to go....kuplink, kuplank, kuplunk!

We did a little blueberry math and then we had a blueberry muffiins!

After all that blueberry fun we were ready to finish up our Mother's Day gifts this afternoon. We have been working on them all week! We made the cutest Mother's Day Booklet. I loved seeing all of their responses. Here are just a few.

I love my mom because she always helps me with everything. She prays with me at night and I love her really much.

My mom likes to sing "What does the fox say?"

Then a good friend took pictures of all my students and we turned them into bookmarks. They are adorable!

All in all, we had a fabulous day!!

Bowlathon

Today was the big day, Bowlathon! Every year we have a bowlathon to raise money for our school and our kiddos have to get lots of sponsors. My little ones have been looking forward to it for days. We loaded grades Pre-K thru 8th Grade into two buses and headed to the bowling alley.

Penguins!

We finally finished our read aloud Mr. Popper's Penguins and decided to have a penguin afternoon. We made the cutest penguin headbands to wear all day.

Group shot of my cute penguins!!

We took a little break to do the Penguin Dance Song.

 Such a cute song!

We started putting together our Mr. Popper's Pengins Lapbooks.

They did such a great job!

While we were working on our lapbooks we heard a know on the door. It was Mrs. Smith. She had a special package for us that had been delivered to the school. She wasn't sure what was in it but she thought she heard some noises coming from the box. What could it be????

Everyone got up close to the box to see what they could hear. They were so cute! You could hear kids whispering, "I heard something?" "Did you hear that?" They were convinced there was a live animal in the box.

Well, we opened up the box and there was a stuffed penguin, Captain Cook, in the box with lots of goodies!

Each child will take Captain Cook home for a sleepover! How fun is that????

We finished our day off with a penguin treat of cookies. Yummy!!

Everyone got to take home a penguin ring.
