Smiling Hill Farm!

Today the First and Second Graders went to visit Smiling Hill Farm! We couldn't have picked a better day. First, we went into the barn to learn about cows.

When we finished with the cows, we went on a wagon ride. Everyone loved the wagon ride!

Today's snack was yummy! We each had an ice cream sandwich.

Next, it was time to see some more animals. We entered the barnyard and saw lots of goats, emus, llamas, pigs, sheep, rabbits, cows, horses, ducks and lots more!

They loved the goats!

I loved the llamas!

There were lots of things to climb into and climb on. They took turns in the driver's seat.

They took a little break on the train so we could take some pictures.

Some of my girls in the bunny house!

Driving the steam shovel.

All in all it was a great day!

Guest Reader

This past week we had a special guest visit us in First Grade. Nana's grandmother who is visiting Maine and Nana's family came to school on Thursday. She read a story to both Kindergarten and First Grade. The kids had met her last year when she came to read to them so some of them remembered her. She stopped by during the afternoon and read to us first and then moved on to K. She read aloud a book about a little girl who wanted a pair of Wellington Boots. Her parents had given her shoes for what she needed and couldn't afford wellington boots but she still wanted the boots. In the story, the girl prayed about the boots and then found a way to earn money to buy the boots she wanted. It was a great story with lots of lessons. Nana's grandmother did a great job. She stopped all throughout the story and explained things to my students and made sure they understood what was going on.

If you would like to be a guest reader in our class we would love to have you. Just send a note in with your child or send me an email.

My Little Scientists!

This week we are learning about weather! I couldn't think of a better time to teach about weather. Right now I am so done with Winter and really looking forward to Spring! For the past few days, we have been taking the classroom outside. The first day that we grabbed our clipboards and headed out I heard one of my kiddos say, we're being like scientists.

Recording their data.

Is it rainy, cloudy, sunny, snowy or windy?

Pajama and Reading Day!!

What a day!  Today was one of my favorite days of the year. I love books AND I love pj's and today we celebrated both!  We started out our day with a big breakfast. We had waffles, sausage, bacon, donut holes and lots of yummy fruit.
While we were eating our breakfast Mr. Dawson stopped by and read us one of his favorite books. The kiddos love when Mr. Dawson stops by and they loved his story

Then we all headed over to Mrs. Waugh's room for a little craft time. Everyone had a canvas cinch sack that they decorated with fabric markers. They came out so cute!

                                                            Aren't they adorable????

After our craft time everyone headed outside for recess which gave us teachers a quick break and then before we knew it, they were back inside and ready to go.

We had a quick snack and then headed to Mrs. Fillmore's room for another story.

Mrs. Smith came to read two of her favorite books.  Then Mrs. Fillmore shared two books from her favorite author, Patricia Polacco.

After a pizza lunch and another recess, some of the high school students came to buddy read with us.

There were big and little students reading in all three classrooms, the hallways, on the stairs, and even in the teacher's room!

After we were done with buddy reading with the high school students, we had another surprise guest reader. I wonder who it was..............

Mrs. Bamford!!!!!!!  Mrs. Bamford loves to read!!! She always makes time in her busy schedule to read to us!

Next it was time for our last activity of the day. We gave our kiddos little hardcover books. They decorated them with their markers.

A few more pictures.......

The day ended with 30 very happy children..........
